Windward Flutes is a repair, restoration and flute-making company, offering excellence in all three categories. Forbes founded the company because he felt that an instrument should be repaired to the same high standard as that with which it was crafted.
The company serves the flute community in three ways. First, by repairing wooden and metal flutes to their optimal playing and aesthetic condition; second, by making fine traditional-style instruments and head joints in wood; and third, by restoring and replicating historically valuable wooden instruments, so that they will not be lost to posterity.
For over ten years Forbes made and repaired flutes at Brannen Brothers, where he learned the craft from Conrad Marvin, arguably the best flute maker in the world. From Brannen, he moved on to V. Q. Powell to head up their body department, and to train others to work to a stringent standard of craftsmanship.
Windward Flutes combines the quality of the Boston tradition with the passion for the celtic and 19th century wooden instrument.”
