1. Adjustment - a small repair required if the sound is poor or the mechanism not responding properly to the player’s touch. Estimated time is 1-3 hours.
2. Repair - the resolution of problems or damage to the flute body, key-work, toneholes or headjoint. Time estimated on inspection of flute damage.
3. Overhaul - the complete servicing of the mechanism, replacement of pads and corks, cleaning and oiling the bore, and lubrication of keys. Depending on the condition of the instrument, maintenance history and complexity of the mechanism, estimated time is 10-27 hours. After an overhaul, the flute must remain at the shop for up to 10 days, for the new pads to stabilize.
